Sheffield United’s under-21’s and Sheffield FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Coach and Horses Stadium last night.
The hosts, now managed by former Carlisle and Colchester chief Mick Wadsworth, took the lead when Brandon Cardwell climbed highest to meet an eighth minute set-piece before Ben Whiteman levelled with a memorable long range effort just before the quarter-of-an-hour mark.
United, who included the likes of George Willis, Louis Reed and Jamie McDonagh in their starting eleven, edged themselves in front midway through the opening period courtesy of Otis Khan’s penalty.
CJ Hamilton dragged just wide and Whiteman struck the crossbar with another thunderous drive from distance either side of substitute Mark Fereday’s 59th minute equaliser for the non-league club. Dexter Atkinson forced United’s Julian Banton to head clear during the closing stages.
