Sheffield United will travel to Fleetwood Town in the second round of the FA Youth Cup after beating Hartlepool 3-1 last night.

Jake Wright and substitute Danny Ramsey scored for the hosts before Jamie Hinchliffe converted a late penalty.

But they were made to work hard against opponents who had briefly drawn level courtesy of Connor Smith’s clinical finish.

Hartlepool served notice they would not be overawed as early as the first minute when Smith hit the crossbar before Kler Heh, Daniel Cockerline and Dominic Calvert-Lewin responded for the hosts.

United extricated themselves from the arm-wrestle when Wright headed home from a 60th minute corner. Smith levelled for the visitors 15 minutes later before Ramsey pounced and Hinchliffe extended United’s advantage after Adam Male had felled O’Shaye Giraud-Hutchinson.
