Sheffield United midfielder Louis Reed is poised to make his second international appearance when England under-18’s face Switzerland at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium this evening, writes James Shield.

Reed impressed when Claude Ryf’s side visited St George’s Park on Thursday and Nigel Clough, the United manager, revealed last night there was never any question of him being recalled for today’s League One encounter with Crewe Alexandra.

“You never turn down a chance to represent your country,” Clough said. “It’s an honour and one that Louis will benefit hugely from.

“Because Louis will take so much from being there, we’ll get the rewards as well.”

Adam Armstrong of Newcastle scored the only goal during the first installment of England’s double-header with the Swiss.

Reed’s involvement comes after his United team mate and fellow Redtooth Academy graduate Callum McFadzean won his first Scotland under-21 cap against Hungary.

McFadzean started the 2-1 victory in Tatabanya, a former mining city 35 miles north of Budapest, before being replaced by Stephen Kingsley after 63 minutes. Ryan Gauld, who commanded a £3m fee when he joined Sporting Lisbon from Dundee United last summer, also featured in Danny Lennon’s squad.
