A SERIES of fine displays for Scotland’s under-21 team were responsible for earning David Wotherspoon, the Hibernian youngster, a place on Sheffield United’s list of transfer targets this summer.
The Star understands that Wotherspoon, who is among a series of names being monitored by Danny Wilson, first captured the United manager’s attention after impressing at international level rather than on the domestic stage.
Pat Fenlon, Wilson’s counterpart north of the border, returned to his desk at Easter Road following a short break yesterday and one of his first tasks will be discovering whether the 22-year-old is interested in a move to England.
Fenlon’s predecessor, Colin Calderwood, claimed Wotherspoon could fill “six or seven” different positions during his tenure in Edinburgh.
Despite primarily operating along the right flank for Hibernian, the former Celtic protege enjoys a more central role for Billy Stark’s side who are well-placed to qualify for next year’s European Championships.
