STEPHEN Quinn will be irreplaceable at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson admitted last night.

But Wilson, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s League One fixture with Scunthorpe, backed Ryan Flynn to help them cope with the loss.

Quinn, the leading provider of assists for last season’s beaten play-off finalists, joined Hull City for an undisclosed sum on transfer deadline day last week.

With United cutting expediture in response to new financial regulations, Wilson said: “You do miss someone of Stephen’s nature. We don’t have anyone else exactly the same as him but we do have other quality players, make no mistake about that.

“The situation is something everyone is aware of and au fait with. There are no hidden agendas.

“And, in fairness, Stephen wanted to play at Championship level at least.”

Flynn, signed from Falkirk soon after Wilson’s appointment 16 months ago, replaced Quinn in United’s starting 11 against AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

The young Scot seized his opportunity in emphatic fashion by scoring two goals and creating another during a thrilling 5-3 win.

Wilson said: “Ryan is a terrific player. It’s difficult to pinpoint areas where he can improve because he’s strong at everything but there’s no doubt he can get even better.

“If anything, he might be able to get a few more goals. Technically he’s very sound and he’s got a tremendous work ethic.”
