Sheffield United: Stefan Scougall sets goal target as he aims to fire his way to a new contract with Blades

The Scot is a free agent at the end of this campaign, but is United’s second-top scorer with five goals in eight starts so far.

And the 24-year-old, speaking ahead of today’s League One clash at home to Swindon, admitted: “I am enjoying it here, I have been playing and scoring recently so hopefully I can continue that. I’m aiming to kick on and reach double figures, which is my goal each season, and I am halfway there already.

“My contract ends this season so we will see in the next couple of months where my future lies.

“We will have to wait and see. I love it here, but in football you never know what is round the corner.

“I will just keep doing my best for the club, until either a contract is offered, or not.”

Scougall appeared to be on his way out of Bramall Lane in the summer, when Nigel Adkins told him his future lay away from South Yorkshire.

But he has been given a second chance under Adkins’ predecessor, Chris Wilder, and added: “I felt my time was up in the summer, but the manager came in and gave me my chance.

“I think I have repaid him, and hopefully can continue to do that for the rest of the season.”
