Febian Brandy can become Sheffield United’s great entertainer, manager David Weir has claimed. And the winger, one of six new players to arrive at Bramall Lane this summer, is being encouraged to showcase his full repertoire of tricks as United look to increase their potency in front of goal, writes James Shield.

“He’s the type of footballer who can bring the crowd to its feet,” Weir told The Star. “He’s got that ability and talent which is great to see.”

United, who drew 1-1 with Colchester last weekend, return to League One action at Bradford City on Saturday.

With influential midfielder Kevin McDonald having recently departed for Wolves, Brandy’s ability to wreak havoc among defences has suddenly assumed even greater importance for the South Yorkshire club ahead of their eagerly-anticipated derby with Phil Parkinson’s side.

““We’ll create more chances as we progress,” added Weir.

Meanwhile, centre-forward Joe Ironside was on target for United’s under-21’s during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City while Darren Ambrose, Chris Burke, Callum Reilly featured for the hosts.
