Shaun Miller has warned defenders ‘You don’t scare me’ as manager Nigel Clough prepares to unleash him on League One competition, writes James Shield.

Miller, who could make his first start since December when Sheffield United visit Colchester in the FA Cup this weekend, was among the most feared strikers in the division before sustaining a potentially career threatening injury. But having made three substitute appearances since receiving the green light to resume his career, Miller is ready to once again prove brains will always beat brawn.

“I’m not the biggest and physically I’m not going to intimidate anybody,” Miller told The Star. “But centre-halves tell me it’s a nightmare when they get dragged all over so that’s what I try and do.”

Miller was in sparkling form before rupturing knee ligaments. But, having scored eight goals in only 11 starts following a protracted transfer from Crewe, Saturday’s first round tie could prove a dress rehearsal for next week’s meeting with Gillingham should Clough select him against Joe Dunne’s side.

“Technically, I like to think I’m quite strong,” Miller said. “So I try and think my way through games.”
