SHEFFIELD United owe MK Dons big time!

The much fancied Dons, who travel to Bramall Lane on Saturday, have endured two tough months in League One, recording just two wins from their last 10 outings.

But Karl Robinson’s inconsistent side did United a big favour in midweek, thrashing league leaders Doncaster Rovers 3-0 at stadium:mk thanks to goals from Izale McLeod, his first strike since rejoining the club, Daniel Powell and Stephen Gleeson.

Despite beating Rovers, the Dons remain 10 points adrift of the play-offs. Injuries and suspensions to key players, including midfield duo Gleeson and Luke Chadwick, have not helped their cause.

Former Leeds United striker Alan Smith, who netted the winner when the two sides met last April, is available for selection this weekend after serving a four-match ban as Robinson’s men look to seal a league double over United. A controversial last minute penalty from Shaun Williams ensured the Dons edged a tight contest in November as the Blades suffered their first defeat of the season.

Mick Harford, the Dons assistant manager, is looking forward to catching up with United boss and his ex-Luton teammate Danny Wilson.

“We don’t speak that often but I’d class him as a good friend of mine and we always chat when we see each other at a game or on the circuit,” said Harford. “Danny has got United playing a certain way but we go into the game believing we can win it.”
