Louis Reed has signed a three year contract with Sheffield United, manager Nigel Clough has confirmed.
The teenage midfielder put pen to paper on the agreement after being named in the starting eleven for last weekend’s League One fixture against Bristol City at Bramall Lane.
“It is incredible that he has only just turned 17, he has had a terrific pre-season and is progressing really well,” Clough said. “We will look after Louis but he will be in and around the first-team and looks a very good prospect.”
Although Clough gave no indication whether Reed will be involved when United host Mansfield Town in the Capital One Cup tomorrow night, he did confirm that Neill Collins and Michael Doyle should both start after being omitted from the line-up beaten 2-1 by Steve Cotterill’s side. Andy Butler could also feature while Chris Porter, Stephen McGinn and Diego De Girolamo will be hoping for recalls.
“We want to keep players fresh and ticking over but we also want to put a strong team out,” Clough said. “We want to go through.”
