Adam Owen, Glasgow Rangers’ head of sports science, has joined Sheffield United.
The 32-year-old officially arrived at Bramall Lane yesterday after being granted permission to leave Ibrox.
Owen, whose job title is ‘Assistant Manager - Performance,’ becomes the first addition to David Weir’s backroom staff since he took charge of the League One club earlier this month.
As The Star revealed on Thursday, Weir also plans to appoint a second assistant, this time with special responsibility for footballing matters, ahead of the new campaign although the former Scotland, Everton and Rangers defender acknowledged “there will be a lot of crossover” between the two roles.
Owen, who holds an M.Phil degree in sport and exercise science, has also completed his UEFA Professional Coaching Diploma.
“Adam is one of the most respected men in his specialist field and I’m delighted that he has taken up the offer to join us here at Bramall Lane,” Weir said. “He rightfully enjoys an excellent reputation among his fellow professionals and peers.”
