Gus Poyet, Ronald Koeman and most recently Mauricio Pochettino are among to express concerns about the demands that congested fixture schedules place upon their squads, writes James Shield.

But Chris Morgan, the Sheffield United coach, has revealed that Nigel Clough does not share his counterparts’ reservations following Sunday’s FA Cup success over Queens Park Rangers.

The 3-0 success at London Road, secured courtesy of Marc McNulty’s effort and a Jamal Campbell-Ryce brace, means United have been forced to rearrange a second first team fixture after last weekend’s meeting with Notts County was also postponed.

“If you win games and do well in competitions then you expect to play more matches,” Morgan said. “That comes with the territory.

“The gaffer takes every single game very seriously, as we all do, and so that’s just something you’ve got to battle through.

“Yes, of course it’s an issue and can make things difficult at times. But we’d rather be winning and playing more than playing less because we lose.”

Although a new date for January 24th’s visit to Rochdale has yet to be announced - United will face Preston North End in the fourth round on the same weekend - Clough recently acknowledged that further alterations would present a challenge given the fact his squad also face midweek encounters against the likes of Colchester, Doncaster Rovers and Walsall between now and the end of the campaign.

Reaching the last four of the Capital One Cup, where they face Tottenham Hotspur over two-legs later this month, has complicated matters further.

“This is why you have a squad of players, not just eleven,” Morgan added. “And it just underlines why you tell people that everyone has a part to play even if they aren’t in the team for one game.”
