Nigel Clough and Jose Baxter have been nominated for the latest Sky Bet League One Manager and Player of the Month awards, writes James Shield.
The Sheffield United duo, who will discover if they have won their respective categories on Friday, were recognised after helping the South Yorkshire club accumulate eight points from a possible 12 during December.
Clough, who took charge at Bramall Lane in October, faces competition from Brentford’s Mike Warburton, Karl Robinson of MK Dons and Bristol City’s Steve Cotterill while Baxter vies with Sam Saunders, Stephen Gleeson and Paul Downing for the player’s trophy.
Explaining why Clough and Baxter have been short-listed, a spokesperson for the judging panel said: “Nigel’s calm assurance is proving a boon. He has placed the emphasis on establishing a solid foundation and his side are buying in to his tactics, conceding just two goals in four games and earning eight points in the process.”
“Given the freedom to roam and use his passing ability to worry opposition defences, Jose has contributed three goals - a header and two powerful strikes - the highlight a stunning 30-yard equaliser against former club Oldham Athletic,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, supporters are reminded that Saturday’s match at Notts County is an all-ticket fixture. United have requested an extra allocation after selling-out their initial quota with seats, priced £24 (adults), £15 (seniors/young adults) and £6 (under-16’s) now on general sale.
