Blades youngster Joe Ironside is desperate to flourish with FC Halifax Town after becoming “frustrated” at a lack of first-team opportunities at Bramall Lane.
The striker, who signed a two-and-half-year contract extension with United in March, has initially joined the Shaymen on loan until January 8. Ironside went straight into Halifax’s squad for their clash with Hyde United in the Skrill Premier League last night.
The 20-year-old made 17 appearances in United’s senior side last season and has featured six times during the 2013/14 campaign, making two starts.
Neil Aspin, the FC Halifax Town manager, said: “Joe is a young lad who wants to develop. He’s frustrated at the moment because he is not playing in the first team.
“He’s a big, strong lad and he will put himself about. He has experience of playing at the first-team level with a big club so it can hopefully be good for both parties as he will be able to get games here, and hopefully he will get a few goals which will then benefit his career when he goes back to Sheffield United.”
United’s young guns host Worcester City in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Bramall Lane tonight, kick-off 7pm. The winners of the tie will travel to Bolton Wanderers.
