SHEFFIELD United are joint top of League One after Nick Blackman’s 66nd minute penalty sealed a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth at Bramall Lane, writes Dom Howson.

The striker, who has been struggling with a virus, is believed to have been left out because of a hamstring problem, prompting Wilson to recall Chris Porter up front. Centre-back Neill Collins also returned as David McAllister dropped to the substitutes bench.

Portsmouth boasted four ex-Blades players in their ranks in Jon Harley, Lee Williamson, Johannes Ertl and Izale McLeod. Brian Howard was ineligible due to suspension but goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen was passed fit after shaking off a hip niggle.

United: Long; McMahon, Collins, Maguire, Hill; Flynn, Doyle, McDonald, Williams; Porter, Blackman. Substitutes: Westlake, Miller, McAllister, Cresswell, Cofie, Ironside, Willis.

Portsmouth: Andersen; Dumbuya, Gyepes, Michalik, Dickinson; Williamson, Ertl, Buzsaky, Harley; Allan, McLeod. Substitutes: Eastwood, J Thompson, Webster, Walker, Rodgers, Compton, Harris.

Referee: Mick Russell (Hertfordshire)
