Chris Morgan and Darren Ward, two members of Sheffield United’s coaching staff Nigel Clough retained when he took charge of the League One club three months ago, have been singled-out for praise by the former England international.
Clough mentioned the duo in dispatches after last weekend’s FA Cup third round victory over Aston Villa, highlighting their contributions during a sequence of results which means United enter this weekend’s crucial encounter with Notts County three places above the relegation zone.
“Morgs and Darren have been absolutely magnificent for us,” Clough said. “Completely first class.
“The pair of them have proven to be invaluable since we came in and credit to them for that.”
Together with goalkeeping coach Ward, Morgan’s future at Bramall Lane appeared to be hanging in the balance when Clough was appointed as manager earlier this term. However, despite retaining responsibility for United’s Professional Development League side, Morgan has become a permanent fixture on the touchline during first team fixtures while Ward has been instrumental in helping George Long blossom into one of the Football League’s brightest young talents.
Meanwhile, United’s under-21’s return to action when they entertain Sheffield Wednesday at Worksop Town on Monday. (kick-off 1pm).
