INFLUENTIAL defender Neill Collins admits Sheffield United owe their fans a result against fellow promotion rivals Brentford following their “poor” showing at Stevenage.

United crashed to their heaviest league defeat of the season at the Lamex Stadium last weekend, losing 4-0 to Stevenage. The result allowed Brentford to leapfrog Danny Wilson’s side into the automatic promotion placings.

The Blades welcome the Bees to Bramall Lane in a Sky televised clash, kick-off 12.45pm, on Saturday as the team look to make amends.

Collins told The Star: “It is never nice to put in a performance like we did at Stevenage. We are all still hurting from it. It was a poor display and there were a lot of individual mistakes. We missed some chances but we made some bad defensive mistakes.

“The fans had every right to boo us off on Saturday but they didn’t. We want to do well for them. It is about professional pride and we owe ourselves and them a good performance.”

Striker Richard Cresswell, meanwhile, has joined York City, where he started his career, on a one-month loan deal. United have inserted a recall clause in the move. Academy coach Jamie Hoyland has left the club.
