Sheffield United face an anxious wait before discovering whether Bob Harris, their influential full-back, will miss tomorrow’s game against Oldham Athletic, writes James Shield.

Harris was withdrawn during the first-half of Tuesday’s victory over Doncaster Rovers after injuring his groin and physiotherapists at the club’s Redtooth Academy training complex were last night studying test reports to ascertain the exact nature of the problem.

With Terry Kennedy missing the 3-2 victory completely with a similar complaint, manager Nigel Clough could be forced to perform another impromptu reshuffle of a back four which has been blighted by a series of fitness and suspension issues in recent weeks.

“Bob told us what was going on and that he felt a little bit of tightness there,” Clough said. “So hopefully, we’ve got it early which, if that is the case, will help.

“We’ll take a look at Bob and see how things are. With some of the things going on back there, we could certainly do with Terry being out there on the pitch although, as always, we won’t take any risks.”

Despite being forced to deploy John Brayford as a make-shift centre-half, United travel to Boundary Park having kept three clean sheets in their last five outings. Jay McEveley’s recovery from a dislocated shoulder - he replaced Harris in midweek - has also eased some of the pressure on the visitors’ rearguard.

“We’re not doing a huge amount of physical work with most of the lads at the moment,” Clough said. “The rate of games we’re playing pretty much keeps them in shape so it’s more a case of keeping them as fresh as possible and ticking over in the way we want. That’s normal at this stage of a season.”
