Nigel Clough has urged his team to improve its decision making as the race for League One play-off qualification enters the finishing straight, writes James Shield.

United travel to Oldham Athletic this afternoon in fifth, eight points above seventh placed Rochdale and chasing a third successive win following victories over Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers.

But, reflecting upon Tuesday’s dramatic meeting with Paul Dickov’s side, Clough said: “We could have chosen better options at times and that’s something we’ve got to consider because we aren’t over the line yet. We’ve always got to be striving to improve because, although it was a cracking game, we know we’ve got to perform better if we want to get to where we want to be.”

United, having fallen behind against Rovers, were indebted to Steven Davies’ 71st minute winner after surrendering a second-half lead.

“The good thing was that we dug-in and we’re creating chances,” Clough, the United manager, added. “There were a few times, because of what was going on, where we had to change the system but the lads showed that will and desire to win.”
