Sheffield United hope Craig Alcock will return to action against MK Dons tonight, writes James Shield.

The former Peterborough defender missed Friday’s draw with Notts County because of a back injury.

But United manager Nigel Clough, whose side are fifth in the League One table, said: “Craig should be okay to train so we’re looking to get him back in there if possible.”

Clough, who will again be without midfielder James Wallace for the visit of Karl Robinson’s fourth placed side, also revealed new signing Chris O’Grady is poised to make his United debut after arriving on emergency loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The centre-forward will compete with Marc McNulty and Michael Higdon for a starting role.

“Chris did a training session on Saturday morning after our match,” Clough said. “He came through that okay and has been working really hard which is great to see.

“Bringing him in means we are happy with the attacking options we’ve got here now. All of the lads offer something a little bit different which gives us flexibility.”
