It COST one old penny new but now, more than 100 years later, a Sheffield United programme has sold for £5,000.

The ‘rare’ 1899 Blades versus Derby County FA Cup final programme would have been worth more - possibly £8,000 - had it not been marred by ‘old tape repairs’ and ‘minor areas of paper loss’.

London-based Graham Budd Auctions said: “I think collectors are more forgiving with extremely rare programmes - you just have to find whatever you can to have representation in your collection.”

The Blades won the FA Cup in 1899 by beating Derby County 4-1, with goals from Walter Bennett, Billy Beer, Jack Almond and Fred Priest.
