Sheffield United have made a contract offer to Diego De Girolamo, writes James Shield.
Manager Nigel Clough revealed the Italy youth international, whose present deal expires at the end of the season, could announce whether he has accepted those terms “later this week” following talks with his family and representatives.
Although United retain an option on De Girolamo for the 20/15/16 campaign, Clough told The Star he would prefer to “sort everything out” rather than be forced to invoke a clause which, according to sources at Bramall Lane, is weighted in the League One club’s favour.
“I’d say discussions with Diego are at the mid-table, half way stage,” Clough said last night. “But we’ve put something to him and so there’s a possibility we could know before our game with MK Dons (on Saturday).”
“Diego is back with us at the moment after a loan (at York City),” Clough added. “We’ll certainly keep him here until the end of the transfer window and see where we are then.”
