Sheffield United have made progress in their bid to sign Livingston centre-forward Marc McNulty, writes James Shield.
Talks between the League One club and their counterparts at Almondvale Stadium are believed to be at an advanced stage after Bramall Lane’s hierarchy tabled an undisclosed bid for the player.
Although manager Nigel Clough acknowledged that had not been accepted - “Nobody ever takes your first offer, do they?” - sources north of the border last night confirmed negotiations remain ongoing with McNulty believed to be keen on joining former team mate Stefan Scougall in South Yorkshire.
Ben Davies, who recently completed a spell on loan at United, is expected to complete a permanent transfer when his contract with Derby County officially expires.
McNulty, aged 21, scored 19 goals in 39 appearances for the Scottish Championship club last season and trained with Clough’s squad earlier this month.
Scougall, who also impressed for John McGlynn’s side, has been a huge success since joining United during the January window and was recently selected in the Scotland under-21 squad which hosts The Netherlands at St Mirren Park on May 28. (Kick-off 7.45pm).
Davies, previously of Notts County and Shrewsbury Town, made eight starts for United after arriving from the iPro Stadium in February.
He worked with Clough at County.
