Nigel Clough, the Sheffield United manager, confirmed he will attempt to resurrect a deal for Aidy White when the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international recovers from injury, writes James Shield.

White, whose loan from Leeds expires next month, is set to miss this weekend’s League One fixture with Tranmere Rovers after damaging an ankle during yesterday’s draw with Oldham Athletic.

But, asked whether the 22-year-old would be offered the chance to rejoin United, Clough told The Star: “Yes, that’s something we’d probably look at doing.

“Aidy will almost certainly go back to Elland Road for treatment now. Leeds are his parent club and so, quite rightly, they are likely to want to oversee and take care of that.

“What happens after that is, of course, up to them but if there’s a possibility of doing something again then we’d think very seriously about it because he’s done well for us.”

“Aidy is probably looking at around two to four weeks on the sidelines now,” Clough added. “He’s got quite a nasty sprain towards the top of the joint.”

United, who stretched their unbeaten run to seven games after Jose Baxter cancelled-out Jonson Clarke-Harris’ opener for the visitors, are also monitoring Blackburn midfielder Alan Judge’s situation ahead of the forthcoming transfer window.

The 25-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Championship club this term after leaving Notts County during the close season.

Judge, who started his career at Ewood Park, is believed to have been close to joining United before the recent deadline for emergency loan signings.
