SHEFFIELD United have released 11 players following their League One play-off final defeat to Huddersfield Town, writes Dom Howson.

The Blades confirmed their retained list today and Steve Simonsen, who missed the vital spot-kick at Wembley, leads the cull. Other senior players leaving Bramall Lane include James Beattie, Andy Taylor, Johannes Ertl and Ched Evans.

Manager Danny Wilson has also axed reserve players Jack Adams, Connor Brown, Seamus Conneely, Corey Gregory, Shane Murray and Marc Warren.

However, new deals have been offered to Lee Williamson, Kevin McDonald and Chris Porter.

Michael O’Halloran, who scored one of United’s seven penalties in the shoot-out at the national stadium, has rejoined Bolton Wanderers following the expiry of his loan spell. Left-back Matt Hill has also left the club.
