DOMINIC Poleon could be thrust straight into first team action if Jonathan Forte doesn’t recover from a minor injury in time for the visit of Colchester United on Saturday, writes Richard Fidler.

The 19-year-old striker will make his loan move from Leeds United to the Blades official on Saturday morning, which will enable him to play in all United’s play-off matches should they miss out on an automatic promotion position but finish elsewhere in the top six.

Forte was brought off after 74 minutes of the 2-0 victory at Bury on Tuesday as a precaution by United manager Danny Wilson but is expected to be declared fit for Saturday.

Wilson said he was delighted to finally bring Poleon to Bramall Lane.

He said: “He’s someone we’ve had our eye on for quite a while. It’s not something that has just happened because he’s become available. “I have to say that Neil (Warnock) has been brilliant about letting us have him too.”

Winning back-to-back away matches has ended United’s poor run of form and sees them return to Bramall Lane with Tranmere Rovers, Doncaster Rovers and new League One leaders Bournemouth in their sights.

Wilson said it was pleasing to excel in all aspects of the performance: “I thought we deserved it and the lads at the back deserved to keep a clean sheet too.

“They deserved one in our last game but it wasn’t to be.

“Here, though, we again controlled large parts of the game and George didn’t really have a save to make even though we knew Bury would be tough opposition which they were.

“They have become very difficult to beat and it certainly wasn’t easy from where we were sitting.

“I thought both goals we scored were exceptional finishes. Jonno could have had a few earlier but the ball didn’t quite fall right for him and then he stuck a really good one away.

“The same goes for Jamie. His finish was excellent and he’s getting better and better with every game.

“That was always going to be the case.”

As expected striker Chris Porter joined Shrewsbury on a one-month loan deal yesterday.
