Callum McFadzean hopes to put his previous experience of the play-offs to good use when Burton Albion face Fleetwood Town in this afternoon’s League One showpiece at Wembley.
The midfielder was a member of the Sheffield United side which lost at the semi-final stage of the League One shoot-out 12 months ago.
Having joined Albion on loan earlier this year, McFadzean said: “I was chucked (for United) at a crucial point last season. It’s not like I’ve been there and done it, it just gives me a bit of an upper hand in knowing what it takes.
“We didn’t get the outcome we wanted at Sheffield but it’s my second chance now and I want to get it right and get promoted with Burton.”
United manager Nigel Clough will be keeping a close eye on the outcome of today’s contest having spent over a decade in charge of Albion before joining Derby County five years ago.
Gary Rowett, his predecessor at the Pirelli Stadium, acknowledged: “Nigel has always been really helpful to me since I became a manager. I played under him at Burton and he always tries to help us, obviously if it’s right for his club and the player as well.”
