Blackpool have effectively admitted defeat in their battle to keep Harrison McGahey at Bloomfield Road next term.
The teenage defender, regarded as one of the Championship’s most promising young centre-halves, appears set to be unveiled by Sheffield United later this week after unofficially agreeing his move to Bramall Lane.
Barring any unexpected circumstances or late change of heart, McGahey is expected to be among the squad which travels to Burton Albion for a pre-season friendly next Saturday.
News that the 18-year-old is seemingly destined for South Yorkshire comes after Glenn Bowley, chairman of the Blackpool Supporters Association, described the Championship club’s lack of players as “a complete and utter shambles” while former goalkeeping coach George Wood claimed its training ground is “non-league standard.”
McGahey made his senior debut against Burnley earlier this year.
