Ben Davies is waiting to discover if he will be invited to join Sheffield United on a permanent basis after completing his loan spell at Bramall Lane.
The midfielder is poised to leave Derby County on a free transfer this summer after failing to command a place in manager Steve McClaren’s starting eleven.
Davies, signed by Clough during his reign at the iPro Stadium, made 20 appearances for United last season and was on target during the victory over Coventry City five days ago.
“My contract runs out at Derby in the summer and we’ll have to wait and see what happens,” he said. “I’ve loved it here and when you play in front of 20,000 it is not like playing for a League One club.”
United finished seventh in the League One table despite being ranked 21st when Clough took charge in October.
“With us not being able to get in the play-offs, some managers would have allowed the players to take the foot off the gas,” Davies added. “But definitely not our gaffer.”
