Jose Baxter says Sheffield United must focus on themselves rather than the opposition in order to win promotion this season.

The former Everton and Oldham Athletic centre-forward made the admission as Nigel Clough’s side applied the finishing touches to their preparations for today’s League One encounter with Crawley Town.

Baxter, who scored the opening goal during Tuesday’s victory over Peterborough, said: “I think, if you bother too much about your opponents then you go in (to games) with the wrong mindset.

“If you look around our changing room and realise what a good team we’ve got then, if we focus on that, then we’ll do well.”

Baxter, who is expected to regain his place for the visit of John Gregory’s side, also warned there is no room for egos in a successful squad.

“All the best teams are exactly that,” he said. “The best teams.

“No matter who plays then we’ve got to adapt to that. We could pick any 11 and it would be capable of going out there and doing to job.”
