Two Sheffield soccer legends have joined sides to criticise referees at recent matches at Hillsborough and Bramall Lane.
Brian Deane, a Blades legend, was particularly scathing of David Coote, who officiated at Sheffield United’s win over Swindon last weekend.
He said Cote’s was: “A very bad performance, probably be one of the worst performances I have seen to be honest.
In the end you look at the referee and feel sorry for them because everybody whether it is Swindon fans or Sheffield United fans or the players all berating him.
“And I am sure he is thinking he’s wanting the ground to swallow him up.”
Deane said he’d got “everything” wrong - including a penalty which should have been given in Swindon’s favour.
“It looked a penalty from where I was sitting. But like I said he was bad at both ends” said the former striker.
Sheffield Wednesday icon David Hirst had some negative words to say about Trevor Kettle, ref in charge of the Owls’ recent draw with Birmingham.
Hirst thought there was a blatant foul on Atdhe Nuhiu as he bore down on goal
The former Owls said: “Refs are put there to make decisions, on that instance no decision was made.”
