Crosby, who was appointed as the 50-year-old assistant as part of a reshuffle which also saw Dean Wilkins arrive as first team coach, said: “The laundry lady, the tea lady, all the way up to the owner. One of the things Nigel is good at is getting everyone together on the same page.”

Crosby has previously worked with Adkins at Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading.

“We can’t do it as a three or as a football staff,” he added. “If you want to be successful, it stems from the club as a whole.

“Nigel recognises that and makes sure everybody else does too.”
