Sheffield United were denied another odds-defying victory on Saturday, having been backed at 40/1 with Football League sponsor Sky Bet before Leyton Orient denied them at the death.
The Blades, who have scored late winners in two of their previous three games, drifted out to the hefty price as they headed into injury-time trailing 1-0 before dramatically going ahead thanks to efforts from Paddy McCarthy and substitute Marc McNulty.
Their visitors then drifted out to 50/1 as they trailed 2-1 nine minutes into added time, only for Romain Vincelot to salvage a point for his side with a last-gasp header.
Chesterfield were also denied late on as Wes Burns netted Bristol City’s winner with the Spireites just 1/12 to leave with a creditable point, having pulled level twice as Eoin Doyle continued his remarkable scoring streak. Doyle, who has now scored 14 goals in Sky Bet League 1, is currently just 4/5 to end the campaign as top goalscorer, having started the campaign at 100/1.
The weekend’s results have seen the Blades drift out to 3/1 for promotion with Paul Cook’s men now 7/1.
