WITH both Sheffield United and Wednesday without matches this weekend because of the weather and international break respectively, the chat turned to a Blades-supporting-England-capped-striker who may end up at Hillsborough.
There weren’t many of the correspondents on thestar.co.uk that were prepared to sit on the fence about Kevin Davies, that’s for sure.
sterlander wrote: “kevin is a massive utd supporter and nothing more would please him is seeing weds get relegated. whats his goal ratio? 1 in 8? lately. need a 20 a season striker not a sidebe type striker.”
Ayrshire Owl responded: “But Sterlander, 20 a season strikers are all getting picked by their own clubs. No club in its right mind would let a 20 a season striker out on loan, at any time, never mind at the sharp end of the season. Loan sigings are always a gamble for teams in our situation. The only players available are unproven youngsters, players coming back from inury, or veterans past their bet and no longer able command a place.”
chrisSWFC said: “im sick of seeing all this about loan signings... thought DJ was good enough to get the best out of the players we already had.. o grady match winner against utd and barnsley and look whats happened to him..
hilltopblade posted: “Not fickle are you ?? Big dave one week, useless the next. Big Kev may not score many but he’s a blade and he would be a great signing - take your money, take you down.”
Bob10 added: “Ayrshire, you say Dave Jones doesn’t see Madine or Maguire as the solution. I suggest your statement is incorrect. The more accurate statement is that Dave Jones doesn’t see Madine or Maguire. He misplaced them sometime around September and hasn’t seen them since. I had the same problem with my car keys.”
And Steggsy concluded: “This smacks of being a red herring, maybe Dave’s keeping his real target close to his chest. All you MM & DJ detractors, be careful what you wish for, would you prefer a Venkys type to come in?”
