tHere was a rare outbreak of Christmas generosity on thestar.co.uk - as football fans on both sides of the Sheffield divide showed some festive spirit.

SKBlade, remarking on United’s 2-0 win at Crawley and Wednesday’s 2-0 home victory over Charlton Athletic, posted: “Well done to both teams today, the first time i will post this comment: Up The Blades and Up the Owls, Merry Christmas.”

Mancblade added: “I’ve not been on for a while due to work/home commitments. Great win at a difficult place and great we are top for crimbo.

“I won’t be on now until the new year as away for the holidays so to all posters both Owls and Blades, have a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

Sean56 was in similar high spirits: “We are top of the League. Long may it last, got to take 6 points over Xmas and then who knows?

“Merry Xmas to all Sheffield football fans, roll on Boxing Day.”

Empty Red Plastic Seats - presumably at Owls fan - commented: “Your top of the tree for Christmas well done.”

On another issue, DevonwiseOwl discusses the arrival at Hillsborough of new coach Stuart Gray.

“Hopefully the addition of an experienced coach is going to make a difference” he posts.

“DJ doesn’t seem to be enthusing too much about it, so I wonder if it was imposed on him by MM. The lack of an experienced coach has caused serious problems and the lack of organisation on the pitch has been clear to see. Two tricky away games now, but Bolton let in 5 to the bottom club, so they could be ripe for a smash and grab raid.

“Owls fans who have been critical of DJ have been totally right to do so.

“Our form has been diabolical for several months and the buck stops with him. He selects the team and the tactics and both aspects have been seriously lacking. If him and his new coach turn things around, of course we will all be happy. It will be very interesting to see if MM trusts him with any transfer funds next month.”

While Silverblade wrote: “A couple of Christmas crackers from McMahon and we move up into first place, well done Blades, hopefully we can get these two homes games into wins and push on and don’t look back, but come January hope we don’t get the rug pulled from under us by selling key players..UTB.”

Merry Christmas to all our posters.
