Quinn's a shooting star

MIDFIELDER Stephen Quinn is showing the Bramall Lane forwards a thing or two when it comes to shooting.

The Sheffield United dynamo tops the club's shoot-on-sight table, with a healthy 16 shots on target in league and cup combat so far.

Quinn is certainly not scared to have a go - he has had a further 12 off target too.

His tally comes ahead of Billy Sharp (11 on target, 10 off) Darius Henderson (12 and seven) and James Beattie (eight and eight.) Gary Speed and Danny Webber follow the pack.

Shooting doesn't always mean goals, of course.

But the 22-year-old Dubliner is United's joint second-top scorer with three goals, eclipsing his two last year, alongside Beattie, the striker netting twice last Saturday against Bristol City.

Sharp is the leader with four.

Quinn's goal against Doncaster Rovers last month was a cool finish which guaranteed his team maximum points.

The player has certainly been a driving force in United's engine room as they've positioned themselves in fourth place in the table.

A club spokesman said today: "Stephen is a bundle of energy, a real jack in a box.

"He scores or looks to score both inside and outside the box and isn't afraid to go beyond the strikers when merited.

"He is courageous too. He is smaller than most opponents but you will never see him shirk a tackle.

"He's a player you cannot keep down."

Last Saturday, Quinn made his 56th appearance for United.

But the ex-Millers loan player will have to be careful with discipline - he has picked up two bookings in his last two games (Bristol City and Doncaster), adding to one in September against Coventry City.

Quinn is one of six players who have made 10 starts for United this term, the others being Paddy Kenny, Matthew Kilgallon, Gary Naysmith, Speed and Sharp.
