Our confidence is untarnished says United boss

DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, last night claimed his team’s self-belief remains intact despite their emphatic FA Cup defeat by Birmingham City.

United, who slipped to fourth in the League One table following the postponement of Saturday’s visit to Colchester, suffered a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Chris Hughton’s side.

The trip to the Weston Homes Community Stadium had represented an opportunity to consign that loss to the dustbin of history but Wilson said: “It’s not an issue. It would be if we’d played badly (against Birmingham) but we didn’t .

“We didn’t get the result we wanted but, against a very good team, by and large we did get the performance.”

City trounced Leeds 4-1 at Elland Road following their success in South Yorkshire and Wilson added: “Just ask the Leeds defenders if Birmingham are a damn good side. I think we all know what the answer is going to be don’t you?

“I’m pleased because I’ve got a good set of professionals who work hard for this club and who have been putting in some excellent displays. We want that to continue.”

United hope Nick Montgomery will be declared fit to face Wycombe Wanderers this weekend. The midfielder had been in danger of missing the Colchester game due to a slight ankle problem.

Birmingham's result against Leeds put it into perspective, they still have prem player's in their team, so it wern't so bad, we have to move on and win our games in hand to put pressure on the top two, and yes we will...utb....
