Not for turning: United boss Danny Wilson

Not for turning: United boss Danny Wilson

SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson has insisted that no-one will be allowed to leave Bramall Lane during the emergency loan window.

Wilson, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s League One fixture against Wycombe Wanderers, warned it would not make “footballing sense” to dismantle a squad which enters its meeting with Gary Waddock’s side fourth in the table and within striking distance of an automatic promotion spot.

Despite allaying fears there would be an exodus of high earners during the recent transfer window, the board of directors’ intention to comply with new financial regulations has prompted concerns that key mem

bers of Wilson’s team could still depart before next month’s deadline for temporary signings.

But Wilson said: “No one is going out. Not as far as I’m con

cerned. It wouldn’t make any footballing sense for us to do that. From a footballing perspective there’s absolutely no mileage in it. We all know what the stated ambition is both on and off the pitch.

“But there’s nothing to be gained by getting another club to pay someone’s wages for a few months and then bringing them back. It’s a pointless objective.”

United, who recruited Marcus Williams, James Beattie and Will Hoskins during the January window, have invited former Glasgow Rangers defender David Weir and goalkeeper Mark Howard, previously of Blackpool, to train at Shirecliffe.

Wilson, who has yet to publicly announce whether he will be in a position to offer either a short-term contract, added: “We’re always looking at people. We’re always identifying people we’d like to bring in.

“We do that because we can’t be dilly-dallying around for three weeks .If you do that you can miss the boat with everything because of it.

“It’s always best to try and keep on top of the situation and make sure, whatever the circumstances, that you are ready to act accordingly.”

Meanwhile, Wanderers, who travel north a place and a point above the relegation zone, have allowed central defender James Tunnicliffe to join League Two outfit Crewe Alexandra on loan. He started September’s 1-0 victory over United at Adams Park.

Ive had lunch with Harry Redknapp today. Hes a very close friend of mine and has been for many years since i accidentally pushed him in a rock pool whilst he was catching small crustaceans with his son Jamie at Skeg one Summer. Anyway hes told me thats hes Spurs manager and he would only consider ONE other position if it arose and thats to be manager of the mighty SWFC. im steelcityblue AKA THE INCREDIBLE BULL5H1TTING MAN and i talk complete 5H1TE because im a sad old loser from Gleadless valley who has never had anything and never will, so i make up these ridiculous stories about myself and what ive done to detract from the fact that im an utter nobody! Stroll on.

I agree about being a little short we have a team that can score a few but lack a little pace at the back and can be undone but so can all the others still think we will just about make automatic spot.

Not much comment here about football - again. It seems clear the Blades will have to unload some players eventually. I guess the Board are holding off until the promotion situation is clearer - but it looks like a gamble? I still think we're just short when we come upagainst the best sides, but should be good enough with this squad to make the playoffs, like the Wendies probably will as well

Now MrB, I was merely trying to offer mutual comfort to lanze, who, as you may deduce from his name, is a European - based deluded little fledgling. I am well - versed in matters of the EU, I went to Jersey 6 years ago, and I like pizza.
