Neill hoping to avoid window pain
COMMANDING Sheffield United defender Neill Collins is praying there is not a flurry of transfer activity at Bramall Lane before the window closes at 11pm tonight.
It is no secret United have to reduce their wage bill, which is the biggest in League One, to ease their alarming financial situation.
And The Star understands a number of Championship clubs are keeping close tabs on long-serving midfielder Nick Montgomery while Lee Williamson, Ched Evans, Richard Cresswell, Stephen Quinn, Harry Maguire and Matthew Lowton all have their admirers.
Speaking after the club’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Birmingham City, Blades boss Danny Wilson said they had received no offers for any members of his squad. But it is not beyond the realms of possibility Wilson will have to offload one of his top performers today.
Collins said: “It would be huge for confidence if we kept everyone together. We have got a lot of players who can play in the Championship.
“Right now, it is looking pretty positive we are going to keep hold of everyone but we will wait and see what happens.”
The centre-back added: “When you are at a big club like Sheffield United, there is always going to be speculation so it is pointless trying to second guess what’s going to happen. You just have to get on with it. It is as simple as that.”
As United embark on the final furlong of their promotion quest, Wilson has not ruled out further strengthening his team, although he is unlikely to re-sign Billy Clarke from Blackpool.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 06:55 PMSigned Llera , Jones and Bostock in January, no fire sale at the Stain as they ´re all damp Squibs. We didnt want or need Watt and Tavernier after they filled in kindly for us whilst our much better players became fit. Now you have gone and signed two Strikers with a grand total of one, I repeat one goal between them this Season!! you gotta laugh at the little Piggies idea of BIG TIME

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 04:03 PMSaturday against Birmingham showed we have some way to go. We can beat middle and lower level teams , but don't do well against better teams. I like the way the blades are playing - it's much more attractive than it used to be, ( and I thought much of Birminghams play was a bit boring - they were just much more clinical in front of goal) The problem last year was the manager and the number of loan players. Many of the current team, whilst not fantastic, could have done OK in the Championship and stayed up. I could live with losing Monty, Cresswell and Jean Francois - but I suspect we may lose others before today's out

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 12:11 PMIts alot down to management and getting the best out of a player as much as their ability. I bet if any of the above mentioned players do go, it will be to Championship clubs with managers who dont share your amazing insightfulness. This vision of your must also make you question why you are sniffing around players from Bury?
