Sheffield United welcome back a familiar face in Chris Porter as the striker’s new club, Colchester United head for Bramall Lane, but all eyes will be on the Blades attempts to get back to winning ways after a disappointing defeat to Gillingham on Saturday.
Sheffield United: Howard, Brayford, McEveley, Basham, Harris, Doyle, Coutts, Campbell-Ryce, Baxter, Murphy, Done.
Colchester United: Walker, Wynter, Clohessy, Eastman, Briggs, Massey, Lapslie, Fox, Watt, Szmodics, Porter.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Gavin Massey, aged 22, progressed through the ranks at Watford before making his professional debut as a second-half substitute for Danny Graham five years ago. Liverpool were reportedly monitoring his services soon after that brief cameo before he joined Yeovil Town, where he scored against his present employers, on loan. Massey has scored six goals in 33 appearances for Colchester this season, including a brace against Fleetwood Town in October and one when Leyton Orient made the short journey to Essex last month.
Sheffield United won the last meeting between these two teams when, despite trailing 2-0 with seven minutes remaining, Ben Davies converted from the spot after Stefan Scougall had been brought down in the penalty area. Freddie Sears, now of Ipswich Town, and George Moncur scored for the hosts before Davies netted his first of the evening and Ryan Flynn also pounced after replacing Michael Higdon during the closing stages of September’s match.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Christopher sarginson: Tonight’s match at Bramall Lane will mark the first time the Staffordshire based official has taken charge of a match involving Sheffield United this term. However, he did oversee Colchester United’s 2-2 draw at Swindon Town in October when he booked three visiting players. Sarginson averages 3.1 cautions per match since August.
