So, after a long season, Sheffield United are two games away from a trip to Wembley and the opportunity to take their place in the Championship once again.

Standing in their way are Swindon Town, who travel to Bramall Lane for tonight’s first leg match having finished eight points ahead of the Blades, in fourth.

POSSIBLE TEAMS

Sheffield United: Howard, Harris, McEveley, Brayford, Freeman, Coutts, Scougall, Murphy, Holt, Flynn, S Davies.

Swindon Town: Foderingham, Rossi Branco, Turnbull, Ricketts, Barthram, Swift, Marshall, Rodgers, Luongo, Williams, Smith.

ROBINS PLAYER TO WATCH

Andrew Williams, previously of Yeovil Town, Hereford United and Bristol Rovers, has scored 22 goals in 51 appearances so far this term. But his effort against Leyton Orient last weekend ended a 10 match drought. The 28-year-old started his footballing career as an academy player with Aston Villa before making his debut for Hereford as a substitute in their 2004 Herefordshire Senior Cup final against Forest Green. Williams made his first appearance for Rovers, three years later, as a replacement for Rickie Lambert.

HISTORY LESSON

Sheffield United and Swindon Town boast two wins apiece from their previous four meetings in League One competition. Intriguingly, neither has secured an away victory at Bramall Lane or the County Ground since United triumphed 3-1 in Wiltshire 21 years ago. Jamie Murphy scored twice, in the 73rd and 90th minutes, when Mark Cooper’s side visited South Yorkshire in January. That match saw Town enjoy more possession but the hosts register more shots on target.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Darren Bond: Averages 2.6 cautions per game this season, the Lancashire official last took charge of a Sheffield United game in February when Jason Holt and Terry Kennedy were among five players booked during their 2-1 win over Notts County at Meadow Lane. Bond also oversaw United’s game against Coventry City on the final day of the previous campaign.
