Sheffield United’s players possess the strength of character required to claw themselves out of trouble.

That is the verdict of manager David Weir who, despite seeing his team slip to the foot of the League One table following last weekend’s defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, insisted it will soon realise its potential.

“We keep taking blows but they keep on coming back,” Weir said.

Kevin McDonald, the Wolves midfielder, echoed those sentiments after locking horns with his former club for the first time since completing a £250,000 move to the Black Country.

“Sheffield United came here and played well in the first half - they pretty much played us off the pitch, we couldn’t get close,” McDonald said. “That’s the way their manager wants them to go about their business.
