Jagielka won’t cry over snub

Have your say

EVERTON defender Phil Jagielka has taken Wembley disappointment in his stride and is determined to fight for his place in the team.

Despite starting the last two league matches, the former Sheffield United defender was an unused substitute for the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool at the weekend as Sylvain Distin and John Heitinga were preferred at centre-half.

But Jagielka, who was sidelined for two months in January because of a knee injury, will not sulk over being left out of the club’s biggest match since the 2009 FA Cup final.

“If my role is to keep John and Sylvain playing as well as they can - or to give them a rest - I’ll do that,” he said.

“We are part of a team and a squad that want to do well.”
