SHEFFIELD Wednesday will win.
Gary Megson has got them well organised, they’re very strong, they’re very big and they’ve got a guy up front who is scoring goals.
There’s never much football played in derbies, which I think will be right up Wednesday’s street. They’ve got the kind of team who can deal with that.
Wednesday will win 2-0 and they will play to their strengths, which is how strong they are and Gary Madine up front who can’t stop scoring at the moment.
MEL STERLAND - Owls legend
SHEFFIELD United will win.
Games like this are all about the occasion and as the red and white wizards are at home I expect them to make full use of that advantage.
Wednesday are the form team of the moment, I accept that. And to many people they will be the favourites. But the occasion will be too much for them. United, meanwhile, have been eratic and we don’t seem to have the firepower at our disposal that we need on a regular basis. But nevertheless I think Stephen Quinn will be a leader in the midfield and he will make a real difference.
Gary Madine is on fire for the Owls and Danny Wilson is going to have to come up with a plan to contain him.
Personally, I would take a draw on Sunday and when United are at Hillsborough. I just hate losing to them.
IAN WHITEHORNE - Sheffield FC Assistant Manager
IT will be a draw.
I know I’m sitting on the fence but at the beginning of the season I tipped both of the Sheffield clubs to be promoted back to the Championship.
United have got home advantage, which counts for a lot in derbies so I think that will cancel out Wednesday’s good run of form recently. They’re both strong teams with strong squads.
There’s really not a lot to choose between them, that is why I think it will end level. I have mixed memories of the Sheffield derbies.
When I was manager at Wednesday we beat United in the Zenith Data Systems Cup at Hillsborough in front of 33,000. Dalian Atkinson smashed in a great goal that night.
And we had one more at Bramall Lane in their centenary season. Keith Hackett sent Carlton Palmer off and he missed the first three matches of the season!
RON ATKINSON - Ex Owls Manager
I OBVIOUSLY want Sheffield United to win and I think Sheffield United will win.
We’ll adapt to the occasion and Danny Wilson will make sure every single one of our players is well prepared and aware of what they are likely to face.
Obviously it’s impossible to predict exactly how the game is going to unfold but we’ve got people who can handle the occasion and have got the experience as well.
Harry Maguire is a young lad but from what I can see he’s got the right make-up to cope with the atmosphere. He’s actually got the best attitude I’ve seen in a young lad coming through for quite some time and I’m sure the more senior players around him have helped that process too.
I know we’ve had a little bit of a dip in form of late but Danny has done a really good job and by and large we’ve done well.
This is the game when we’ll get back to winning ways.
It will be tight, I’m sure of that.
But United will win it.
