Stocksbridge Park Steels commercial boss Dave Bradley has revealed how friendlies against opposition like Sheffield United underpin the non league club’s whole season.

Around 1,860 fans watch the Blades paste Steels 9-0.

“It was a great attendance again from Blades supporters” he said.

“The revenue helps us survive, without these games it becomes difficult to get a team to compete at our level.

Travel alone last season cost us £8,000.

“We need to be playing further up the pyramid but can’t do that without matches like this”.

Despite being defeated 9-0 by the Blades, there are plenty of positives to draw from last weekend’s encounter.

The day’s revenue will fund another promotion push for the Steels as they look to regain a place in the Northern Premier League.
