Roy Hodgson will delay naming the England squad heading to Euro 2016 until Monday in order to take in the final weekend of the Premier League season.

The 23 men charged with leading the Three Lions to glory in France this summer was due to be named at Wembley on Thursday afternoon.

However, England boss Hodgson has decided to switch the announcement until Monday following a meeting with the FAand his coaching staff. The decision has been taken in order to better assess the players’ fitness after the final games of the campaign, with questions still lingering over the availability of several players.

The severity of Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck’s knee injury has yet to be made public, while club-mate Jack Wilshere has only made two substitute appearances this term.

Everton’s former Sheffield United defender Phil Jagielka has been out with a hamstring injury and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has just returned to outdoor training.
