Gently does it as £2m Darius hits the comeback trail
DARIUS Henderson has returned to training after recovering from knee ligament damage.
But the Sheffield United striker is unlikely to feature in Saturday's South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley as the club's medical staff look to prevent a reoccurance of a problem which has forced him to miss their last six matches.
Manager Kevin Blackwell, who also expected to learn the results of a scan on Gary Naysmith's injured groin when he reports for training this morning, told The Star: "Darius is now undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme to help him get his fitness back.
"He's doing work again but we want to make sure that he's totally okay.
"Obviously spending a bit of time out takes its toll in that respect."
Blackwell added: "Gary has had the new tests done and we're hoping to hear shortly.
"We know what he's done but we want to know exactly where the problem is. The last tests were inconclusive.
"It's all to do with the angle of the MRI scan and the latest one has been done differently so hopefully that will tell us what we want to know."
Henderson's progress is especially timely given Blackwell's warning that, despite producing some attractive football, United must convert a greater percentage of the chances they create.
Henderson became Blackwell's most expensive acquisition of the summer when he completed a 2 million transfer from Watford and coaching staff believe the combative forward has the potential to wreak havoc among
Championship defences.
"We've got lads on the way back but we don't want to rush anybody or take unneccesary risks," Blackwell said. "That can be counterproductive."
Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Justin Haber has been named in the Malta squad for a friendly against Iceland on November 19.
Central Coast Mariners, United's Australian sister club, drew 3-3 with Sydney over the weekend.
Bradford City will ask United for permission to select on-loan Blade Nicky Law for Saturday's FA Cup first round tie at MK Dons.
