Sheffield United will spend next season in League One after losing against Yeovil Town in the play-offs semi-final second leg.

A Callum McFadzean effort a minute into the second half at Bramall Lane gave the Blades a narrow first leg advantage heading into the clash at a sunny Huish Park.

But goals from Kevin Dawson and Ed Upson put the home side through the final at Wembley against either Brentford or Swindon Town.

Yeovil began well, putting United under immediate pressure. And it was no surprise when Dawson, put through by a great pass from James Hayter, slotted home past George Long to send the home fans wild after five minutes.

The goal seemed to bring United to life and McFadzean perhaps had a claim for a penalty when he was bundled over in the box.

And the young winger was again involved in the action when his shot was charged down, the ball falling to Michael Doyle who’s shot was tipped over by Marek Stech in the Yeovil goal.

United were beginning to dominate and in the 33rd minutes Jamie Murphy saw his curling right foot effort beat Stech but rebound off the Yeovil crossbar.

Joe Ironside had a header well saved by Stech - although the linesman had raised his flag for offside.

Five minutes before half time Harray Maguire was booked for bringing Paddy Madden down as the Yeovil striker tried to break into the box.

From the free kick Jamie McAllister’s shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Just before the break Murphy saw his volley from an Ironside knockdown well blocked by Dan Burn.

Chris Porter had a chance straight after half time but saw his first effort smothered and then side-footed into the side-netting with his second.

Madden, League One’s leading scorer, had two terrific chances to put the Glovers ahead. After cutting in for his first he dragged his shot making it easy for Long to save.

And then he headed over from five yards out when it seemed easier to find the net.

Chris Morgan made his first change on 55 minutes with Darryl Westlake being replaced by Danny Higginbotham. And 10 minutes later Dave Kitson came on for Ironside.

United were still having the better of the match with Kitson making his presence felt up front.

Murphy did well down the left and flashed a cross in front of the Yeovil goal, however no United player could get on the end of it.

With 10 minutes to play Hayter got on the end of Foley’s cross but headed wide.

Ed Upson, put Yeovil ahead with five minutes to play as he headed past long from a cross by Madden.

Foley nearly made the match safe when he shot wide from Madden’s cutback.
Hayter was replaced by ex Wednesday player Richard Hinds in injury time for Yeovil.
