Sheffield United took a step closer to League One survival with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Bramall Lane.
The Blades began well and almost scored through a Harry Maguire header. However, they didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock with Jamie Murphy’s ninth minute effort giving Nigel Clough’s team a 1-0 lead.
Tranmere began to enjoy more possession and former Sheffield Wednesday striker Ryan Lowe saw his shot saved by George Long.
Baxter nearly doubled United’s lead but his header flashed just wide.
The former Everton and Oldham Athletic midfielder did make it two on 56 minutes when he scored after good work by Chris Porter.
And it was game over on 67 minutes as Ryan Flynn scored the Blades’ third.
The visitors pulled one back five minutes from time through Ash Taylor.
It proved to be a mere consolation as the Blades cruised home to a deserved three-points.
