sheffield United, on the back of last Saturday’s victory at Oldham, did it again with a win over Brentford at the Lane.

Kevin McDonald was thrust straight into the starting 11 after joining on a permanent basis. The former Burnley midfielder opened talks with Danny Wilson on Thursday afternoon and Michael Doyle started on the bench.

Wilson had insisted it was all about the players ahead of his first competitive game at home.

But, given the controversy that surfaced on his appointment that was always going to be questionable at best.

All eyes were on the former Owls chief when he strode out of the tunnel but the attention quickly turned on to the pitch asUnited made a positive start.

Quinn’s third minute caused havoc and McDonald fired over from the edge of the box.

It was goalless at half-time but Unite broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half.

Quinn clipped the ball inand Cresswell, wth his back to goal, did well to hold it up before laying off a short pass to Slew who converted via a deflection

Collins went close from another Quinn corner and McDonald showed his worth with a delightful feint and pass to set another attack in motion.

He was dropping short at every opportunity to receive possession.

Twenty minutes from time Cresswell made it 2-0 after Williamson and Lowton combined down the right.

It was another close range finish for Cresswell.

His celebrations were short-lived as after being barged in the back by Osborne he reacted angrily and the pair were booked.

But in the end United claimed the points over the Bees.
